So, back to the roots of an awesome automotive brand: Porsche.
The 356 was the first model Ferdinand "Ferry" Porsche created in 1948 in Gmünd, Austria (Because of the 2nd World War they were in Austria). They built approximately 50 examples. Two years later, in 1950 the factory moved to Zuffenhausen, Germany. They continued the building untill 1965. There are guesses that about the half of the 76,000 produced 356 are still alive.
The design was by Erwin Komeda, employee at Porsche in those days, the rest like engine, suspension and the chassi were from Volkswagen. In Austria they produced handcrafted aluminium bodies, in Germany steel ones.
With a Quantity of 7 627 Porsche produced from 1948-55 the Type 356.
From 1955-59 the 356A with 21 045 units.
From 1959-1932 the 356B with 30 963 units and from 1963-1966 16 678 of the 356C .
Some 356's also took part at several rallys like the 24 hours of Le Mans, the Mille Miglia, the Carrera Panamerica and many more.
Some may doesnt know, in the early 1960s there was a collaboration between Porsche and Abarth and they built the so called "Porsche 356B Carrera GTL Abarth coupé" which's photo you can find here
Acording to the "Autozeitung" in 2013 Porsche will produce a new generation.
Hopefully it'll not end like the new Generation of the Beetle !! :-)
Now some pictures of my model ;-)
